The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson & Passaic recently appointed Paul J. Sciré of Wyckoff as resource development director. “We are adding valuable new expertise to our staff and have confidence that Paul will elevate our fundraising effort so as to best meet existing and future needs,” said William Rush, chairman of the board of directors. President Glen Vetrano added, “Paul’s professional background makes him an excellent fit with our organization and, even in these challenging economic times, offers us the opportunity to garner the level of charitable support required to advance our mission.” Sciré is a development professional with more than 20 years of experience. After graduating from La Salle University in 1986, he moved from Philadelphia to Washington, DC, where he worked for several years with the non-governmental relief agency Salvadoran Humanitarian Aid, Research, and Education Foundation and later as the executive director of Witness for Peace, a not-forprofit organization that promoted a just United States foreign policy toward Central America and the Caribbean. During this 10-year period, he spent a considerable amount of time in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Haiti. In 1996, he returned to New Jersey, where he

served as director of development and marketing at New Jersey Audubon Society, director of corporate relations at the American Heart Association, and chief development officer of the Elant Foundation. More recently, he was the director of development and alumni relations at the DwightEnglewood School. Sciré and his wife, Liliana, have two daughters, Sarah and Nina. When he is not working or spending time with his family, he serves as a member of the board of directors of the Wyckoff Family YMCA and is involved in other volunteer activities. In 2003, the former Passaic Boys and Girls Club continued its 100 years of service by merging with the 40 year old Paterson Club. The club’s primary mission is to ensure and enhance the quality of life for youth as participating members of a diverse urban community. Basing its programs on member and community involvement, the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson & Passaic helps youth to help themselves realize their potential for growth and development. The club works with youth ages five through 18 without regard to any socioeconomic, racial, cultural, or environmental factors. The club is a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization. Brockel named superintendent
Wyckoff resident Richard J. Brockel will become superintendent of the K-8 school district in Greenwood Lake, New York in July. He will be paid $165,000 a year. Brockel has been superintendent in Wood-Ridge, Park Ridge, and Ridgefield. He previously taught fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. He will replace John Guarracino, who served Greenwood Lake for four years. Harvey Hilburgh has been interim superintendent since August. District voters support the concept of building a high school for local students and have approved a move to set aside funding for construction. The district currently sends its high school age students to Tuxedo.
