Participants develop a strong work ethic, learn the value of team work, and make lifelong friends as they benefit from professional instruction in the four competitive swim strokes. Tryouts will be held on Saturday, June 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA’s Spring Lake, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The season runs from mid-June through early August as the Stingrays compete against other area swim teams. Swimmers must be between six and 17 years of age as of May 31, 2009. There is no fee for the team, only for the Spring Lake Park membership. A family membership for full Y members and Wyckoff residents is $385; $510 for non-resident families. Seniors plan events The Wyckoff Seniors Club meets every Tuesday at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue. Upcoming events include a trip to the New York Botanical Garden followed by lunch at Mario’s on Arthur Avenue on June 18. There will be a Thimble Island Cruise and lunch at the Chowder Pot in Brandford, Connecticut on July 28. The group will be off on a Rip Van Winkle Flyer Luncheon Train ride through the Catskills on July 28. Christian Band concert set The Grace United Methodist Church Youth Group is sponsoring a Christian band concert on June 14 at the church located at 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff. Bands performing will be Article A and Legend of the Fall. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the concert will begin at 6 p.m. The $5 per person donation requested will support the annual youth mission trip to Risingville, New York the first week Wyckoff Sale Days June 11-12-13 in July. Risingville Intercommunity Service Effort (RISE) is a week long program for senior high youth which was started by Chatham UMC, in which the young people provide significant repairs to homes of families who live below the poverty line and are unable to help themselves due to physical and/or economic inability. Great American Bake Sale planned Wyckoff resident Angie Shaghaghi will hold her annual sale in support of the Great American Bake Sale, a national fundraising initiative to fight childhood hunger in America. The local sale will be held Saturday, June 13, in the Boulder Run Shopping Center in Wyckoff, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All baked goods will be prepared by Angie and her students in her cooking school, and all proceeds will go towards feeding hungry kids! Last summer, Shaghaghi and her students raised enough funds to feed over 500 children. This year, their goal is to raise enough funds to feed over 1,000 children. Call (917) 494-3311 for details. Club program begins with ‘Wizard of Oz’ All children are invited to join the summer reading club at the Wyckoff Library. Stop in the children’s room any time beginning Thursday, June 25. There will be plenty of reading incentives and activities, including theatrical and music performances, art and weaving workshops, storytelling, magic and variety shows, and Mr. Fish’s amazing anti-gravity show. All programs require in-person registration. The first program will be a performance of “The Wizard of Oz” by Youth Stages on Tuesday, July 7 at 2 p.m. Registration for this program begins Thursday, June 25 in the children’s room.
