Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • June 10, 2009 Dear Readers: Summer is fast approaching. Nearly half of 2009 has flown by in an instant! It is hard to imagine that, in the next few weeks, school will be out, and our kids will be running to the pool, the beach, and camps all over the area. Our high school seniors will say good bye to their familiar surroundings and prepare to venture out into the world of work or college, while those already away at schools all over the country will return home for a few months off from the grind of class work. Parents can enjoy having them home again for a short time, and know that soon they will return to their lives away from home. There is much going on in Wyckoff regarding the Chamber of Commerce and its involvement in our wonderful little town. On June 15, we will be presenting three scholarships to local high school students at our next general meeting. Each year, we receive dozens of applications from many area high school students who live in town or work for a Chamber member’s business. The winning applicants are the ones who stand out to our Review Committee. This year’s pool of 40 applicants included straight-A students, three sport varsity athletes, academic decathlon members, and charitable volunteers. It was such a pleasure to read the applications, and to see the tremendous accomplishments of many of these local students. We can all be proud of them as they go out to represent our town next year at college. They will continue to excel at the things they do best. There is also much going on in the way of new construction in Wyckoff’s business centers. Several new stores and businesses are under construction next to the Ivy Shop on Franklin Avenue, including a Dunkin Donuts, and a new personal trainer. There is also a new store next to DeFino Realtors called Sweet Lullaby. Most of you have seen the huge changes happening at Boulder Run these days. The new, improved, and much larger Stop and Shop has had its soft opening, and plans a grand opening celebration in July, once the old building is completely gone and the new parking lot is paved. We wish them well in their new store. While we will see many new stores and restaurants coming into the new sections of Boulder Run in the near future, several of the existing stores either have, or will move locations within the new shopping center, the most recent of which is Goldberg’s Bagels. They just reopened in their new home next to Portraits in Hair Design and Boiling Springs Bank across the parking lot from their old spot. They now have seating for 30-40 people in the front of the store, and the same great service and tasty bagels, coffee and sandwiches as before. Stride Rite will be reopening in a few months once the new building is ready. With the improved parking, updated stores, and a fresh look, we hope everyone realizes that now, more than ever, it is vital to shop locally, and support your local merchants. Everything you need and want is available here from the friendly, local people you know and trust, and they offer the best individual customer service you could ask for anywhere. Shop in town.
