Franklin Lakes June 3, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 5 Facelift planned for borough’s municipal building by Frank J. McMahon The Franklin Lakes Council plans to renovate the entrance to the municipal building on DeKorte Drive by transferring community development grant monies from a barrier-free restroom project at the municipal fields to the barrier-free access project at borough hall and the recreation center building. The Bergen County Office of Community Development has awarded two grants to the borough for barrier-free improvements. One was for $32,000 in connection with the construction of a proposed restroom facility for the municipal fields behind the municipal building, and the second was for $118,820 for improvements at the municipal building and the recreation center. A resolution recently passed by the council indicates that the council wants to transfer the $32,000 grant to the municipal building and recreation center project. The council plans to indefinitely postpone the proposed restroom project. That action will result in a total of $150,320 that will be available for the municipal building and recreation center projects. Franklin Lakes Borough Engineer Kevin Boswell advised the council at its last public meeting that the only cost to the borough for the municipal building and recreation center will be $18,000 for professional services. The municipal building facelift project will solve what Mayor Maura DeNicola described as “significant problems” with the front of the municipal building where the deteriorating slate will be replaced with an Americans with Disabilities compliant entranceway. The project will also include an ADA compliant path into the recreation building. “We continue to look for ways to increase our quality of life and to make running our municipality as efficient and cost-effective as possible,” DeNicola said in a recent e-mail.
