Midland Park Memorial Library’s new enhance website is almost ready to go live, with a link to the borough’s site, mpnj.com. Members of the Library Board and the Friends of the Library unveiled their project at a recent meeting of the mayor and council and sought their approval prior to connecting the link. The site, to be launched within the next week, will provide history about the library, description of services and programs along with access to forms, policies and several library-related service hyperlinks. It will also highlight the Friends’ many activities and accomplishments and its annual letter to the community, according to Friends’ member Shirley Qin Held, who made the presentation to the governing body. “We are excited to launch the expanded features and functionality as integrated into the Borough website,” commented Mayor Joseph Monahan, who also sits on the Library Board. The site has a connection to BCCLS, the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, which allows viewers to browse the catalogs of 75 public libraries in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties. Direct connections are also provided for JerseyClicks, New Jersey’s one-stop library gateway to quality information, which allows users to search full-text, magazines, journals encyclopedias and business resources with their Midland Park library card; and to QandANJ.org, where patrons can connect online with a real librarian -- one-to-one in real-time -- for help

with any topic or information need. Held developed the site for the Friends in conjunction with Library Board members Cheryl Crucitto (who acted as liaison between the Friends and the webmaster) and Julie Guciardo and the rest of the Library Board. It has the approval of Library Director Melissa Hughes as well as of the mayor and council.
Guciardo told the council that the next phase of the website will be to acquire the necessary programs to automate the calendar and be able to track room availability. She said other libraries already have the program through BCCLS but that funds would have to be raised for the license. Once it goes on line, the site may be viewed at http:// www.mpnj.com/library.
The Needlecraft School in Midland Park will be featured on NBC’s Today Show this Thursday, July 23 in the 8 a.m. segment. Television cameras were at the Godwin Avenue school last week capturing director Ginny Fawcett and her students working on their varied projects, including pillows
