She was a ﬂight attendant with American Airlines and previously with TWA for over 30 years. She was a volunteer and former board member with RBARI in Oakland for 35 years. She is survived by her husband Robert Forsyth, her children Jeffrey and Andrew Forsyth, and her sister Christine Bakalis of Santa Cruz, California. Harry Getchell of Wyckoff, formerly of Waldwick and Paterson, died July 4. He was 78. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Before retiring, he was a cable operator for Western Union International in New York City from 1961 to 1984. After retiring, he volunteered as a crossing guard in Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife Dolores, his son Frank of Suffern, New York, two granddaughters, and his brother George Biangardi of San Antonio, Texas. He was predeceased by his siblings Robert, William and Mary. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conﬂict. He owned and operated Cavalla, Inc., a cosmetic and pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Hackensack for more than 50 years. He was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R. C. Church in Franklin Lakes. He is survived by his wife Jean, nee Coniglio, his daughter Gina of Franklin Lakes, three grandchildren, his mother Helen, nee Biggi. He was predeceased by his father Umberto Neri. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Before retiring he was a sales executive for JVC Corporation of America, previously he worked for Sony Corp, Ampex, and Allan Dumont Laboratories. He is survived by his daughters, Candace Ahto of Florham Park, Robyn O’Brion of Garﬁeld, and Kimberly O’Brion of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, nee Frank O’Brion. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5398, Midland Park. He was a parishioner of Church of Nativity in Midland Park. He is survived by his wife Joan, his children Kathryn Healy of Ringwood, Joan McDonagh of Ringwood and John J. Lambertus “Bert” Soodsma of Grandville, Michigan, formerly of Midland Park, died July 5. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He is survived by his children Gail Struck and Patricia Mouw, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his siblings Herbert Soodsma and Lee DeRitter. He was John J. She was a member of Christ Church in Ridgewood and the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood. She is survived by her children James F. Wilson of Middletown, New York, and Janet Knothe of Paramus, ﬁve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her brother, Lew Wood of California. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth C. Wilson. O’Brion This month, Cantor Nathan Lam of Los Angeles, California, led a group of 70 cantors from across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Israel to Poland for a historic concert tour honoring their heritage and highlighting the Jewish revival underway in Poland today. This tour was made possible by the support of California-based philanthropist Tad Taube and the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life and Culture. New Jersey Cantors Marcia Lane of Long Branch, Wayne Krieger of Freehold, Murray Simon of Princeton, Sam Weiss of Oradell, David Perper of Mahwah, Faith Steinsyder-Gurney of Mahwah, Ilan Mamber of Franklin Lakes, and Eric Snyder of Cherry Hill will all be performing at prestigious and meaningful venues in Poland, joined by cantors from across the U.S., Israel, Canada and Europe. “Poland in 1939 was the center of the cantorial world. Creativity and artistry of the cantorial musical form was at its height. We are returning out of homage and respect to this tradition to which we have dedicated our professional lives,” said Cantor Lam. “We also are there to remember the great loss in the Shoah and to honor the Righteous Gentiles, like Irena Sendler, who saved Jewish lives at the risk of their own. Both Ivor Lichterman of Tucson, Arizona and Joel Lichterman of Denver, Colorado are now cantors themselves. A wall of the synagogue was dedicated to Poland’s rich cantorial history. The tour also included a performance at The National Opera House in Warsaw featuring some of the masterworks of cantorial music from Poland performed by the world’s greatest cantors with the National Opera Orchestra and Chorus and the debut of a work based upon the prayers given by Pope John Paul II at the Western Wall by famed motion picture/television/pop composer Charles Fox. The cantors also led a memorial service at AuschwitzBirkenau. That evening, they performed at the signing ceremony for the announcement of a new sister city relationship between San Francisco and Krakow.
