Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • July 15, 2009 Wyckoff Last fall, staff and residents of Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff sent care packages to Marines serving in Iraq. The recipients of the care packages were from Golf Company, 2nd Battallion, 25th Marine Regiment. In gratitude, the Marines donated the flag that had flown over their base in Iraq to CHCC. Christian Health Care Center recently held a flag dedication ceremony in honor of those who defend our country. In attendance were Marines from the battalion; Petty Officer Jim Cava, U.S. Navy, retired, who made a patriotic tribute; CHCC residents and staff who are veterans; and 15 CHCC holds flag dedication ceremony in township fifth-graders from Sicomac School in Wyckoff. “We honor many residents, staff, and community members here today who have served our country and defended the flag,” said Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, CHCC President and CEO. “Some have served recently. Some served many years ago. All served with honor and dignity and on our behalf. We are indeed blessed as a nation and as its citizens.” Prior to the flag dedication, the Marines met with the elementary school students and discussed the military and their experiences in Iraq. They donated the flag to the Center in appreciation for being the recipients of care packages that were put together by CHCC employees, residents and residents’ families. It’s the drive to love America, and the fight to keep this country free. Patriotism is supporting our president even if you don’t agree with everything he says. If we didn’t have some patriotic people, our lives would be a lot different. Therefore, we should be very grateful for those dedicated patriotic people who fight to keep us free, and to sacrifice their lives for ours.” “We were pleased to celebrate Flag Day with such an intergenerational program,” said Struyk. “It was evident that everyone in attendance cherishes our nation and the freedoms that we hold dear.” The non-profit CHCC has served the community since 1911, providing a broad scope of mental-health and eldercare services.
