Residents and students are asked to bring in a can of soup and place it in the box provided by the school office in Highland and Godwin schools. Residents may also bring cans of soup to the Midland Park Public Library where there will also be a collection box. The drive will continue until Jan. 30. Girl’s T-ball and softball registration to be held Girls T-ball and softball registration will be held Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Highland School cafeteria. The program is for girls who are currently in kindergarten up to and including ninth grade. Kindergarten girls will play T-ball. Foundation to hold annual meeting The Midland Public Education Foundation will hold its annual meeting on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Highland School Media Center in Midland Park. At this meeting, the MPPEF will appoint new executive officers, add trustees, and assign volunteers for various committees. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The MPPEF is an all volunteer 501(C) 3 organization whose mission is to enhance the academic experience of children attending public schools in Midland Park. Through the efforts of the foundation, grants are awarded to teachers enabling them to bring exciting state-of-the-art learning opportunities and technologies into the classroom. Knights plan Fish & Chips Dinner The Midland Park Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Fish & Chips Dinner on the first Friday of Lent, Feb. 27, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner will be held in Kennedy Hall at the Church of the Nativity. The cost of the dinner is $12.50. Argyle’s will provide the dinner. Macaroni and cheese will be available for children for $3. Dinners will be available for takeout. PTO, PAPS, Boosters plan joint meeting MPHS Athletic Boosters will hold a Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Community Church in Glen Rock. Parents, families, friends, coaches, and other members of the community are invited to attend. The Booster Beefsteak is one of the primary fundraisers for the year. Help protect the environment by donating used digital cell phones. Used cell phones will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations, or refurbished and sold. One hundred percent of the proceeds will help fund MPTV. Old cell phones can be donated at the main office in any of Midland Park’s three schools and placed in the bins marked “MPTV Cell Phone Drive.” Donated cell phones may be tax deductible. Kindergarten registration planned The Midland Park School District advises parents of prospective kindergarten entrants that pre-registration will be done by phone from Monday, Feb. 23 through Thursday, Feb. 26. To pre-register, parents should call (201) 445-5350 from 10 to11:30 a.m. or from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Those with last names beginning with letter A-M should call either Monday or Wednesday. Those with last names beginning with letters N-Z may call Tuesday or Thursday. At this time, parents will be scheduled for full registration and screening during the week of March 23. In order to be eli- gible for enrollment, children must be age five before Oct. 1, 2009. College financial workshop offered The Midland Park Memorial Library will host a college financial planning workshop on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Certified College Planning Specialists from LMB Group, Inc. will be present to offer a workshop entitled “A Roadmap to Funding Education/Retirement without Going Broke.” Learn why college planning is retirement planning and hear about financial strategies. All are invited to attend this free event. The theme will be a “Green Out,” and all fans will be encouraged to wear their green in support of Panther teams. The Boosters will have refreshments available to purchase. Food drive planned Kids Clubhouse Learning Center, at 85 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park, is accepting non-perishable food items to help stock the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. The CFA provides emergency food, rental, and utility assistance and advocacy to neighbors in need in Bergen County and the upper Passaic Valley. Food items may be dropped off Monday and Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., just inside Kids Clubhouse Learning Center. Call (201) 670-4464.
