February 25, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 17 Wyckoff Wanderings Chamber offers scholarships The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will be awarding four scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to further their education. Three of these scholarships ($500 each) will be offered to students who are Wyckoff residents. The fourth scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to a child of a Wyckoff Chamber member or a child of an employee of a Wyckoff Chamber member, regardless of their town residence. There is no eligibility restriction based upon a student’s chosen high school. Applications are now available at local high school guidance offices, or may be downloaded from the Chamber’s website at www.wyckoffchamber.com. All applications must be returned to President Matt Brogowski, Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 2, Wyckoff NJ 07481 no later than Wednesday, April 15. Book groups for children available The Wyckoff Public Library is offering book discussion groups for children in grades three through six. Third graders will discuss “Bunnicula” on Wednesday, March 4 at 3:30 p.m. “Castle Corona” will be the topic for students in grades four through six on Thursday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the books are available at the children’s desk. The Wyckoff Public Library is located at 200 Woodland Avenue in Wyckoff. Newcomers plan Ladies Night Out The Wyckoff Newcomers and Neighbors Club will host a Ladies Night Out on Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature an evening of casual drinks and friendly conversation at Varka Restaurant, 30 North Spruce Street, in Ramsey. Fish & Chips Dinner planned Care-A-Lot Christian Nursery School will host a Fish & Chips Dinner on Friday, March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Argyle’s will be providing the food. The cost of the dinner is $12 for adults and $5 for children when tickets are ordered in advance. At the door, tickets will be $14 for adults and $6 for children. Chicken dinners are also available. To order tickets, call (201) 444-3090. Care-A-Lot is located at 475 Lafayette Avenue in Wyckoff. Katz to exhibit at Wyckoff Y Artwork by Ramsey resident Joel M. Katz will be on display at the Wyckoff Family YMCA during the month of March. Katz’s most recent completed work is an art form that involves multiple original images printed behind an optical lens, which creates movement and animation when the viewer moves past the work. The art form, lenticular imaging, brings the viewer into play by involving the person with the art. Now retired, Katz has time to devote to his art and photography, and exhibits at many art festivals where he has received numerous awards. His work is hung in galleries and private collections. Exhibited artwork will be available for sale. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Wyckoff YMCA. Partners in Pride to meet Partners in Pride will meet on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Larkin House on Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff. On the agenda will be plans for the spring plantings. Chamber changes meeting date The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will meet on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Blue Moon in Wyckoff at 8 a.m. Speakers for this meeting will be Mayor Joseph Fiorenzo and member of the Wyckoff Township Committee. Blue Moon is located in the Boulder Run Shopping Center on Franklin Avenue. ‘Women’s Wellness Day’ planned The Wyckoff Family YMCA is hosting a “Renew You Day” on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The day will include a choice of an energizing Zumba class with creative toning segment or an invigorating yoga class. Janet Pfeiffer, internationally known speaker and awardwinning author, will present Lighten Up, a creative and light-hearted approach to dramatically reduce and manage stress. Lunch, a chair massage, and mini-facials and minimakeovers provided by Origins top off this day of wellness. Cost is $20 for full members, and $30 for basic/non-members. Kindergarten registration set Kindergarten registration for Wyckoff residents will be held at the neighborhood schools on Feb. 24 for those students whose last names begin with A through L and Wednesday, Feb. 25 for those with last names beginning with M through Z. A child is eligible for kindergarten in September if he or she will turn five years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2009. Original birth certificate, four proofs of residency, and immunization data (DPT, polio, varicella vaccine, Hepatitis B and MMR, as documented by a physician) are required. It is requested that children not be present at registration. Cabaret evening comes to Beth Rishon Temple Beth Rishon will host an evening of cabaret style music on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the synagogue. The evening will include an eclectic musical venue including classical music, selections from the Broadway stage, contemporary compositions, classic rock, Israeli and Sephardic folk music, and a special tap dancing performance. The participants include Samantha Abramowitz, Gale Bindelglass, Melissa Canter, Erica Golubovsky, Mark Kantrowitz, Robin Kantrowitz, Gary Kirkpatrick, Jane Koch, Cantor Ilan Mamber, Rick Morand, Lisa Prawer, Stephanie Rosenblum, Cantor Ben Rosner, Sylvia Rubin, Naomi Schulman, Jo-Anne Skiena Garey, Fern Wilensky, Lindsay Wyck, and the Dance Starz directed by Tara Rota. Performers play instruments including piano, drums, guitar, and violin. There will also be hors d’oeuvres, fruit, and desserts. Participants may bring beverages. Temple Beth Rishon members will be admitted free with reservations made prior to Wednesday, Feb. 25. For non-members and members without reservations, the cost is $10. The cost for students who are non-members is $5. CHCC offers computer instruction Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is offering a two-day computer course open to the community. “Introduction to Outlook” is being offered from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 5 (Part I), and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 6 (Part II), at the Center’s campus, located at 301 Sicomac Avenue in Wyckoff. Follow signs for Building 1, second floor Computer Lab. Class size is limited, and participants need to pre-register. The course fee is $25 and includes hands-on training and training materials.
