Myles Williamson Anna M Fisher Margaret F. Schurr Jean M. Vanasse Sophia V. Hook Letters to the Editor (continued from page 16) their remaining open space through COAH’s third round regulations. COAH seeks to do this by creating large increases in affordable housing obligations that bear no relationship to reality. We must, and we will, continue to fight within the law to maintain the character of our community in the face of the state seeking to compel overdevelopment of our land, and seeking to take away our ability to define who we are and how Wyckoff should be developed. We have already begun this battle by submitting a plan to COAH at the end of 2008 that challenges that organization’s calculation of Wyckoff’s affordable housing obligation and seeks to eliminate two sites that were previously designated for Mount Laurel housing: the Maple Lake and Rockland Electric sites. If successful in these efforts, we will have spared these two sites from the overdevelopment that Gov. Corzine and the state, through COAH, would happily impose upon us. We have also joined with over 300 other municipalities in a lawsuit brought by the New Jersey League of Municipalities that seeks to invalidate COAH’s third round regulations. This is an issue that has great implications for the future of our community. I can assure our residents that we will not go quietly into the night, but will fight this battle to preserve the character of our community from unreasonable and unwise Mount Laurel mandates to the fullest extent possible and by all means necessary.
