Franklin Lakes February 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 9 Mayor and council appoint borough professionals by Frank J. McMahon Franklin Lakes Mayor Maura DeNicola has made several professional appointments for 2009 with the advice and consent of the borough council. DeNicola has appointed a borough attorney, borough engineer, borough planner, the borough’s Council on Affordable Housing counsel, the borough auditor, the bond counsel, and the borough’s risk management consultants. Each of the appointments is for one year ending on Dec. 31, 2009 and each of the appointees has certified that they have not made any reportable contributions to a political or candidate committee in the borough during the previous year, and that they will be prohibited from making any reportable contributions through the term of their contracts. All the appointees have been reappointed to their positions having served in their professional capacities during the past year. But DeNicola emphasized that they have all agreed to hold to their 2008 contract rates and not ask for an increase for 2009. “I believe that is a step in the right direction,” she said at a recent public meeting when the appointments were announced. Douglas Doyle of the Teaneck law firm of DeCotiis, Fitzpatrick, Cole, & Wisler, LLP was reappointed as the borough’s municipal attorney, while Boswell McClave Engineering of South Hackensack was reappointed as the borough engineer, and Paul Grygiel of the New York City firm of Phillips Preiss Shapiro Associates, Inc., was reappointed as the borough’s professional planner. Edward Boccher, also of DeCotiis, Fitzpatrick, Cole & Wisler, LLP was reappointed as the borough’s COAH counsel, Frank DiMaria of the Lodi firm of DiMaria & DiMaria, LLP was reappointed as the borough’s auditor, John Draikiwicz of the Newark law firm of Gibbons, PC was reappointed as bond counsel, and Virginia Forde of McCarthy Forde, LLC of Woodcliff Lake was reappointed as risk management consultant. Doyle was first appointed to the borough attorney position and Boccher was first appointed as the borough’s COAH counsel last November. Doyle replaced William Smith of the law firm of Hook, Smith & Meyer which is located in the borough, and Boccher replaced Brian Nelson who had been temporarily appointed by Mayor DeNicola the previous August to replace Stuart Koenig of the law firm of Stickel, Koenig and Sullivan, who had previously served as the borough’s counsel on COAH matters. Boswell has been the borough’s engineering firm for about the past 15 years, but Grygiel was appointed as the borough’s professional planner last July to replace Joseph Burgis of Burgis Associates, Inc., of Westwood. Frank DiMaria of the auditing firm of DiMaria & DiMaria, LLP has been the borough’s auditor since January 2007. The borough’s previous auditing firm was Lerch, Vinci & Higgins located in Fair Lawn. Draikiwicz was first appointed as the borough’s bond counsel in February 2007, replacing Hawkins, Delafield & Wood LLC of Newark and New York City. McCarthy Forde has been the borough’s risk management consultant for many years. Clara S. Licata, Esq.
