Library schedules storytime In-person registration for the Wyckoff Public Library’s Spring Storytimes begins Thursday, March 5 in the children’s room. Storytimes offered are: Rhyme Time for children ages birth through 30 months and caregivers to meet on either Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., March 12, 19, and 26, and April 2, 9, and 16 or Fridays at 10:30 a.m., March 13, 20, and 27, and April 3 and 17. The library will be closed Good Friday, April 10. Toddler tales for children 30 months to three years and caregivers will meet on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., on March 9, 16, 23, and 30, and April 6 and 13. Storytime Fun for 4’s & 5’s will meet on either Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. on March 10, 17, 24, and 31, and April 7 and 14 or Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. on March 12, 19, and 26, and April 2, 9, and 16. Adult tennis registration underway Wyckoff Recreation is currently holding registration for its adult co-ed competitive team tennis program for Wyckoff residents who play recreational tennis and are a high school senior or older. The program is designed for intermediate to expert players and there will be tryouts. Tryouts will be held May 2 at the Memorial Field Tennis Courts. Matches will be held at the town courts on Monday evenings beginning June 1 and ending Aug. 11. The registration fee is $55. Patricia Delaney to address auxiliary The Wyckoff Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will offer a program on Women and Heart Disease at its next meeting on Feb. 24. Patricia Delaney, RN, manager of Cardiac Services at Valley Hospital, will be the speaker. The meeting will be held at the Advent Lutheran Church at 10:15a.m. ‘Women’s Wellness Day’ planned The Wyckoff Family YMCA is hosting a “Renew You Day” on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The day will include a choice of an energizing Zumba
class with creative toning segment or an invigorating yoga class. Janet Pfeiffer, internationally known speaker and awardwinning author, will present Lighten Up! -- a creative and light-hearted approach to dramatically reduce and manage stress. Lunch, a chair massage, and mini-facials and minimakeovers provided by Origins top off this day of wellness. Cost is $20 for full members, and $30 for basic/non-members. Register with the Y’s front desk at (201) 891-2081. Fyke Nature Association plans events The Fyke Nature Association will hold its annual North Shore field trip on Saturday, Feb. 21. This trip covers stops along the New Jersey shore from Bay Head to Long Branch for wintering waterfowl. Participants should bring lunch, binoculars, and scopes for this all day trip. Layered clothing is recommended as there will be some time spent out of the cars. The group will meet at the Allendale Municipal Building at 7 a.m. John Brotherton will serve as trip leader. The February meeting of the Fyke Nature Association will be on Friday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. Photographer Kevin Watson will present “Ecuador: Birds of the Andes.” This is a new program that will feature the best photos from Watson’s visits to the steep, cloud-wreathed slopes of the Andes, home to many species of tanagers, hummingbirds, and other neotropical endemics. The meeting will be held at the Wyckoff Public Library at 200 Woodland Avenue in Wyckoff. Registration for traveling softball to begin The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department is currently holding registration for its select traveling softball teams. All girls ages nine through 14 as of Jan. 1, 2009, typically grades three through nine, who wish to try out for one of the traveling teams must register at the recreation office no later than Feb. 27. Registration is open to Wyckoff residents only. There are teams at the U10, U12, and U14 levels. A copy of the registrant’s birth certificate is required when registering. Only those players who register during the above time period will be contacted regarding tryout dates. For more information call the recreation office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (201) 891-3350. Fall soccer registration set The Wyckoff Recreation Department will hold sign-ups
for the fall soccer season on the following days: Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at Eisenhower Multi Purpose Room; Monday, March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eisenhower Multi Purpose Room; and Monday through Friday, March 2 through 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wyckoff Recreation office. Please note that registration will be held on only one Saturday, not two like in the past. The Northwest Bergen Soccer League is for players born from Aug. 1, 1993 to July 31, 2001. Girls games are played on Saturday mornings and boys games are held on Sunday afternoons. A wallet size photo is required at registration. Anyone who arrives at registration without a photo, will be turned away. The fee is $55 per child. The first and second grade soccer programs are instructional programs for players entering grades one and two in September 2009. First grade boys will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings and first grade girls will meet from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Second grade boys and girls will play more structured games on Saturday mornings at various times and fields in town. The registration fee for these programs is $50. The kindergarten soccer program is an instructional program for players entering kindergarten in September 2009. The kindergarteners meet on Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. or 10 to 11 a.m. at Pulis Field on Wyckoff Avenue behind the YMCA. The registration fee for this program is also $50. For more information, call (201) 891-3350, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Rainforest program scheduled The Friends of the Wyckoff Library will bring Rizzo’s Reptiles’ rainforest program to the library on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. Rizzo’s Reptiles will bring live animals that live in this unique habitat. Learn about the five layers of the rainforest and its precious and fragile balance of this ecosystem. This program will be held in the James Monroe Room. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the circulation desk of the library located at 200 Woodland Avenue. This program is suitable for children from five to 10 years old. Chamber plans meeting The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will host a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Blue Moon in Wyckoff at 8 a.m. Speakers for this meeting will be Mayor Joseph Fiorenzo and member of the Wyckoff Township Committee. Blue Moon is located on Franklin Avenue in the Boulder Run Shopping Center.
