Midland Park February 11, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 The Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department is turning 100 this year and has planned a full range of activities to celebrate the event. The highlight will be a family day/ picnic on Saturday, Sept. 12, when the department will run the traditional Midland Park Day. According to Fireman Peter Jeffer, who is heading the celebration committee, the event will, in essence, be a thank you to the community. “We have a great sense of gratitude for Midland Park, its history and its people, and we want to show our appreciation to the townspeople for their support of our department. It’s tremendous,” said Jeffer, who has been a fireman for 35 years. “We are very lucky to have so many young, active, enthusiastic firefighters. They don’t join up for the party; they are here to work,” he added. To fund the birthday celebration, the anniversary committee has scheduled several fundraising activities. The most ambitious is an ad journal set to go to print later this month. The committee hopes that residents and organizations will participate by taking out an ad in the journal; all contributions are 100 percent tax-deductible (see ad on page 8 of today’s edition for information). The ad book will feature a history of the department Midland Park Fire Department celebrating centennial Following the picnic on Sept. 12, the department will host a reception at the firehouse for other fire departments in the mutual aid network. In April, the committee will hold a beefsteak dinner at the firehouse, the proceeds of which will fund a reunion of past and present fire department members to be held later in the year. On April 27, a golf outing will take place at the Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin, NJ. Sign-up deadline is March 20. Foursomes and singles are welcome at $125 a player. Memorabilia such as mugs, t-shirts and jackets will also be available throughout the year. Anyone in need of additional information or wishing to contribute may contact Jeffer at 201-444-6469.
