Midland Park February 11, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 Midland Park Patrolman Michael Powderley is being promoted to the position of sergeant effective Feb. 16. The official appointment will take place at the Feb. 12 meeting of the mayor and council. The position has been vacant since the retirement of Sgt. Ken Veenstra in December, 2007. Powderley’s salary will be $105,900. Powderley to be promoted to police sergeant “He is hard working and worked his way up over the past 19 years. He is a wellrounded officer with lots of experience. He fit the bill for sergeant,” said Police Chief John Casson of the new sergeant. The chief explained that three applicants from within the department applied for the position, all of whom were “as qualified.” “It was a tough decision,” the chief added. A native of Demarest, where his father is the chief of police, Powderley began his service to the Midland Park department as a special police officer and later a dispatcher, and was appointed as a patrolman in Janu- ary, 1992. Over the years, he has received a number of commendations and awards for meritorious service. He was awarded the Top Cop Award in 1998. He holds an AA degree from Bergen Community College.
