Activities offered during break
The Midland Park Recreation Department is sponsoring a wide range of activities for children and families during the February School Break at little or no cost, including a Family Night at the Center, that will be held on Friday, Feb. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration forms and complete details for all daytime programs may be downloaded from www.mpnj.com under Parks & Recreation. High school students who are interested in assisting with programs to earn community service hours are asked to call (201) 652-2747. The Community Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. On Monday, Feb. 16, the Midland Park Alliance and the Midland Park Recreation Department will team up to sponsor a day of free programs for students in grades three through six. Programs will be held at the DePhillips Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities include a poster contest, pizza lunch, movie, and a fitness program sponsored by Parisi Sports Club. The center will be open from 2:30 to 6 p.m. to students in grades seven through 12 for supervised activities including Guitar Hero tournaments, DDR, karaoke, ping pong, and basketball. On Feb. 17, the DePhillips Community Center will be open to students in grades five and six from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for supervised activities and a pizza lunch. The center will reopen from 2 to 6 p.m. to students in grades seven through 12 for supervised activities (see above). A bus trip to Oakland Holiday Lanes is planned for Feb. 18. this trip is for students in grades four through eight. The cost for three games is $8. The bus will leave the DePhillips Community Center at 12:30 p.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. The DePhillips Community Center will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. to students in grades seven through 12 for supervised activities. The center will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 19. Students in grades seven through 12 are invited to participate in supervised activities, including ping pong tournaments, a Madden tournament, and pick up basketball games. On Friday, Feb. 20, the center will open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to students in grades one through four for organized activities, a movie, and McDonald’s lunch. The center will also be open from 2:30 to 6 p.m. to students in grades seven through 12 for Xbox60 tournaments, ping pong and pick up basketball games. Family night will follow from 7 to 9 p.m. The evening will feature a DJ, dancing, karaoke, ping pong, board games, and Guitar Hero. Adult Karaoke Night will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the DePhillips Community Center. Visit the new community center and enjoy some local talent and activities.
