Club to discuss ‘The Camel Bookmobile’ The Waldwick Library Book Club will host a discussion of Masha Hamilton’s “The Camel Bookmobile” on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7:15 p.m. In this poignant tale of risks and rewards, surrender and sacrifice, Brooklyn librarian Fiona Sweeney, travels to Africa to manage an unorthodox mobile library. Audition for G&S production The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company will hold auditions for “The Grand Duke” at the Community Church of Glen Rock, Room 205, Glen Rock, on Jan. 4 and 7 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Those planning to audition are asked to arrive within the first hour, if possible. Anyone auditioning should be prepared to sing a song from the show or a piece that best shows his or her vocal quality. Show dates will start in May 2010. ‘Plaza Suite’ to be presented The Bergen County Players 2009-10 season continues with “Plaza Suite,” which will play Jan. 9 through 30. Written by Neil Simon and directed by Jerry Pettinati, the play features a long-married couple’s return to their honeymoon suite; a Hollywood producer, famous for both his films and his womanizing, who arranges a rendezvous with his high school flame; and a manic couple hosting an expensive wedding reception for their daughter, who refuses to come out of the bathroom. Nominated for three Tony Awards in 1968 (winning for Mike Nichols as Best Director) and then turned into a highly successful film starring Walter Matthau, “Plaza Suite” ran for over 1,000 performances and is still one of Simon’s most enduring and endearing plays. The Ridgewood Singers is a mixed voice community chorus that has been performing and practicing in Ridgewood for over 50 years. Gala sponsors sought On Friday, March 26, Children’s Aid and Family Services will hold its annual fundraising gala at Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell. This year’s theme, “Home on the Range,” will benefit agency services that help vulnerable children, families, young adults, and frail elderly in northern New Jersey. The agency is seeking additional sponsors for the event. Nearly 500 people from the northern New Jersey area will attend and sponsors play a vital role in the success of the gala. The meet- Members of the Allendale Woman’s Club’s Town Wide Garage Sale Committee recently honored the efforts of the Chicks in Motion team for their participation in the 2009 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Led by AWC member Lynn Novak, the team of 15 women, many of whom were breast cancer survivors, trained for six months for the 39-mile, two-day breast cancer fundraiser. Collectively, the Chicks in Motion raised $58,000 for the cause.
