Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • December 16, 2009 Wyckoff Holiday cheer Lobby groups urged: Drop expensive funds The Wyckoff Township Committee has urged the leadership of the New Jersey League of Municipalities, the New Jersey School Boards Association, and the New Jersey Association of Counties to end their participation in state pension plans and to eliminate defined-benefit retirement plans in favor of defined-contribution retirement plans. Members of the township committee noted that New Jersey taxpayers are contributing $1.3 million to the pensions of 62 retirees who worked for the three groups, which are actually private lobbying groups granted pension status by state lawmakers decades ago. The Wyckoff leaders said that members of the three lobbying groups should be lobbying for the elimination of defined-benefit retirement plans in favor of definedcontribution retirement plans, which are more predictable and easier to budget for at the local level, and that taxpayers need relief from pension contributions for state programs. The township committeemen also urged the state to rein in the massive state deficits that are caused, in part, by the current system of employee compensation. J.
