The reception will be held Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jacobsen Landscape Gallery at 11 Barnstable Court, Saddle River. Those who visit that day will have an opportunity to meet Lorenz. Her work will remain on exhibit throughout the month of May. Symphony, Goodyear to perform The Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will feature the “Piano Concerto No. 17 in G” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and “Symphony No. 1” by Gustav Mahler at the final concert of its 2008-09 season. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 1 at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School, 335 North Van Dien Avenue, in Ridgewood. The Mozart concerto will be performed by the orchestra’s guest artist, pianist Stewart Goodyear. Diane Wittry, the orchestra’s innovative artistic director, will conduct. North Jersey Chorus presents concert The North Jersey Chorus will present “Sentimental Journey: A Look Back” on Saturday, May 2 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, May 3, at 4 p.m. at the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church, corner of Morlot Avenue and River Road in Fair Lawn, A special guest appearance will be made by David Dallon of Ridgewood. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry will be presenting the last in a four-part series of its winter/spring workshops on Sunday, May 3 at noon. The workshop will be held in the meeting room located in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not a required. These workshops are presented by the Career Resources The Norman-style homes of architect Carl Kemm Loven will be the subject of a presentation at the Glen Rock Library at 315 Rock Road in Glen Rock, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on May 9. The talk, which is free of charge and open to the public, is sponsored by the Architects League of Northern New Jersey, a section of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Glen Rock resident and Borough Historian Nancy Atkins Peck, author of a pamphlet entitled ‘Carl Kemm Loven: Designer of Dreams,’ will make the presentation. Though they may not recognize his name, many Bergen County residents have long been entranced with the fairytale style homes designed by Loven from the 1930s through 1965, with their turrets, dovecotes, leaded glass windows and handforged hardware. The ensemble will perform music by 2009 Grammy winner Randy Brecker and music by legendary saxophonist Phil Woods, and arrangements by Thad Jones, founding director of the William Paterson Jazz Studies. Miller to address College Club Cathy Miller, award-winning floral designer, will be the featured speaker at the College Club’s May 5 luncheon. Miller is the author of “Harvesting, Preserving, and Arranging Dried Flowers.” She has had articles published in numerous magazines. In 1979 Miller was invited to create a dried floral arrangement for the White House and went on to create 62 arrangements. On May 5, she will create one of her award winning designs and offer tips about designing, creating and drying.
