FLOW Area students qualify for national competition
During a recent statewide competition sponsored by DECA, an association of business and marketing students, six Ramapo Indian Hills students qualified to represent New Jersey at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, in late April. The following students took top honors in their category, qualifying for the California event: Kendall Dacey and Jeni Doughan in team event buying and merchandising, Josephine D’Amico in food marketing, Nathan LaBarba in marketing management, Ryan Durfee in sports and entertainment marketing, and Matt Scheff in the Senior Management Institute. The following state finalists earned both trophies and medals for their individual competitive categories: Courtney Laird, Joe Parseghian, Henry Borgeson, Mike Berardo, Pam Terlizzi, Tom Hayden, Anthony Darajky, Justin Schmittberger, David Brooks, Kristen Ballou, Kendall Dacey, Jeni Doughan, Ryan Durfee, Matt Scheff, Kathleen Caporoso, Nathan LaBarba, Leah Pall, and Katie Mahonchak. The DECA competition includes a comprehensive written test that measures business aptitude and various role playing activities that test a student’s business skills. Participants are expected to dress and act like business professionals throughout the event. The top three state winners in each category qualify for the nationals. Gale Fanale is the advisor for the Ramapo Indian Hills DECA Club.
